Venezuela congratulates the newly elected president of the African Union Commission

On behalf of the Government of Venezuela, the People's Power Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, congratulated his counterpart from the Republic of Djibouti, Mahamoud Ali Youssuof, on his appointment as the new president of the African Union (AU) Commission.

“Congratulations, Brother Youssouf! May his administration in the African Union strengthen South-South cooperation ties,” Gil said through his Telegram channel.

In this regard, he quoted President Nicolás Maduro who stressed that Africa and Venezuela are united by their history in defense of their sovereignty.

“As our president Maduro said:" 'Africa and Venezuela are brothers of blood, history and future. Together we will overcome the chains of imperialism'”.

Mahamoud Ali Youssouf was recently elected as the new president of the African Union Commission during the 38th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Youssouf won the seventh round of voting with 33 votes.
