Venezuela consolidates cooperation in the area of artificial intelligence with China

A Venezuelan delegation, led by the Deputy Minister for the Development of Information and Communication Technologies of the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology, Raúl Hernández, is in the city of Shanghai, in the People's Republic of China, with the objective of consolidating bilateral cooperation ties in the area of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The visit, according to a MINCYT press release, is part of the All-Time and Test Strategic Partnership, signed in 2023 by presidents Nicolás Maduro and Xi Jinping, a high-level agreement that projects Venezuela as a nation at the forefront of technological development, with its own capacities and oriented to the well-being of its people.

As part of the agenda, Venezuela participated in the Third Workshop on Creating and Strengthening Capabilities in Artificial Intelligence, a high-level event organized by the People's Republic of China, which brought together representatives from 21 countries, local authorities from Shanghai, academics from the East China Normal University and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

In addition, a bilateral meeting was held with the General Coordinator of AI Development of the Foreign Ministry of the People's Republic of China, Dr. Sun Xiaobao, where the joint action plan was reviewed within the framework of the World Organization for the Governance of Artificial Intelligence.

In that space, Venezuela reaffirmed its commitment to an ethical, just AI at the service of peoples.

The agenda also included an important meeting with authorities from the government of the Shanghai Municipality, and with Dr. Xu Feng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the City's Science and Technology Commission, to explore future alliances in biomedicine and information and communication technologies (ICT).
