The alternate permanent representative of Venezuela, counselor Lizzet Jimeno, stressed that the Bolivarian Government adopted the Organic Law of the Homeland Development Plan of the Seven Transformations (7T) 2025-2031, which establishes the strategic guidelines of the nation in the coming years, in which the issue of housing and habitat occupy a central place, integrated into the axes of Social Transformation and Ecological Transformation, dimensions considered essential for social development and sustainability environmental, in full alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Considering that housing and habitat represent fundamental rights and key components for building a more just, inclusive and sustainable society, these statements were given during the 3rd meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OCEPR) of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), based in Nairobi, which took place from May 26 to 28.
Jimeno said that Venezuela has had a successful experience in building new housing for the most vulnerable families, a recognition that has even been supported by UN-Habitat. The Venezuelan Government's investment in this area has been significant and constant. All this, despite the negative impact that the imposition of 1,039 Unilateral Coercive Measures (MCU) imposed against the country has had on the economy and on the people's quality of life.
The Alternate Permanent Representative reaffirmed Venezuela 's commitment to the strategic plans of UN-Habitat, to working together with Member States and partners in the field of urban development, advocating for the effective implementation of the New Urban Agenda and for national realities and local strategies to be the basis for shaping global agendas in the area of human settlements, so that no community is left behind.
