Recently, the 111st session of the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) took place at the headquarters of The Hague, the Netherlands, with the participation of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, acting as Observer, led by the Permanent Representative to this Organization, Ambassador Héctor Constant Rosales.

The above-mentioned meeting allowed the States parties to the Convention to reiterate their firm commitment to a world free of chemical weapons, as well as to global disarmament, in favor of peace and international security.

In this regard, after the full destruction of the declared chemical weapons arsenals, the Executive Council of the organization focused its discussions on the progress of the work of the Technical Secretariat in coordination with other States Parties relating to the collection, storage, declaration and verification of the destruction of abandoned and/or old chemical weapons.

The meeting also made it possible to identify progress in the implementation of the Convention, in terms of security and protection programs, as well as to share the results of the work carried out by the Scientific Advisory Council of the OPCW, related to the impact of emerging technologies in favor of the implementation of the Convention and the development of national capacities, among other topics.

In addition, the States Parties to the Convention, belonging to the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NLCA) and the People's Republic of China, reviewed the issues of the current world reality, which were reflected in the Joint Declaration presented by the Permanent Representation of Uganda to the OPCW, in his capacity as Pro Tempore President of the MNOAL, in whose statement emphasized the condemnation of various and flagrant violations of international law today.

The Executive Council of the OPCW is responsible for overseeing the activities of the organization's Technical Secretariat, as well as for promoting effective implementation and compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention, in order to achieve a world free of chemical weapons and the threat of their use. In the same way, it has a program of international cooperation and assistance that provides States with the strengthening of their national capacities, focused on encouraging chemistry to be used for peace, progress and prosperity.

The Permanent Representation of Venezuela to the OPCW, the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other International Organizations and Tribunals based in the Kingdom of the Netherlands continues to work in this direction, in strict accordance with the principles established in the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, strengthening the Venezuelan presence in multilateral spaces.
