The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, transmitted this Thursday the congratulations of President Nicolás Maduro Moros and the Bolivarian Government to the diplomatic authorities of the State of Qatar in Caracas, on the occasion of the celebration of the “National Day of Qatar”, which recalls the unification of that nation.

“On behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, it is a real honor to participate together with the His Excellency Ambassador of the State of Qatar, Rashid Fetais, and other prominent authorities of this friendly nation in the celebrations for Qatar's National Day, which commemorates the unification of the country in 1878,” Gil reported on his social networks.

“It fills us with satisfaction to be part of these commemorative events that will culminate on December 18, the date on which the 146th anniversary of this important event is celebrated,” added the Venezuelan top diplomat.

Qatar's National Day, also known as Founder's Day, commemorates the unification of the country and marks the day that Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohammad Bin Thani succeeded his father as leader of the tribes of Qatar, according to that country's national tourism site.

To celebrate this Day, Qataris decorate their cars and homes with the national flag and other patriotic symbols. The country's flag is a unique combination of national identity and pride, a symbol of dignity and belonging.

On the occasion of this anniversary, different festive activities take place every year during the month of December. These events include the parade of the Military and Civil Defense Forces and an air show, which concludes with fireworks that illuminate the night sky of Doha.
