Within the framework of the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace promoted by President Nicolás Maduro, the Permanent Mission of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations Agencies based in Rome, represented by Ambassador Marilyn Di Luca Santaella, accompanied by Luis Gerónimo Reyes, a member of the Mission, participated in the 52nd session of the Committee on Food Security (CSA), in which he emphasized the urgency of intensify policies to advance the fight against hunger at the global level, stressing that this requires a new world order that respects peace and the self-determination of peoples. Venezuela expressed deep concern about recent events in the world that threaten the Right to Peace, the Right to Food and the Right to the Future of peoples. In this regard, the Ambassador made an urgent call to the international community to mobilize and stop the genocide against the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples. He reiterated the need to defend the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, promoting the peaceful settlement of disputes and the abstention from the use or threat of use of force. The Venezuelan State Representative also highlighted that, despite the fact that the world has enough food, growing social and economic inequalities, climate change and unilateral coercive measures imposed on sovereign nations continue to aggravate global food insecurity. In addition, he highlighted the efforts of Latin America and the Caribbean to reduce the numbers of undernourishment, mentioning initiatives such as the San CELAC 2030 Plan and the Strategy for Food Sovereignty and Security approved by the heads of state of the Amazonian countries. Venezuela called for strengthening agri-food systems, empowering communities, prioritizing school feeding programs and promoting the teaching of healthy, safe, tasty and sovereign eating habits, as has been the country's experience over the past 20 years. “Hunger is a scourge that we can and must eradicate. Today more than ever, Venezuela raises its voice in defense of peace and the sacred right of every human being to eat with dignity. The fight for a more just and equitable world cannot wait,” concluded Ambassador Di Luca.
