The permanent representative of Venezuela to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Héctor Constant Rosales, ratified the support of the Bolivarian nation for the comprehensive, effective and balanced implementation of the Convention, in accordance with International Law and the principles established in the Charter of the United Nations, in favor of global and absolute chemical disarmament.
During his participation in the 107th session of the Executive Council of the OPCW, held from October 8 to 11 in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Venezuelan diplomat emphasized the country's commitment to “global and absolute chemical disarmament, in compliance with international agreements on the subject.”
He stressed that “the current times demand the overcoming of politicization surrounding the use of chemical weapons, which substantially limits the continuation of the Organization's work”, while denouncing that the continued application of criminal and illegal unilateral coercive measures (MCU), such as those imposed by some member States of the Organization against Venezuela, are incompatible with the provisions of Article XI, “because they restrict and hinder the transfer and exchange of chemical products for peaceful purposes, which impacts our economic and technological development.”
The Executive Council of the OPCW is responsible for overseeing the activities of the organization's Technical Secretariat, as well as for promoting effective implementation and compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention, in order to achieve a world free of chemical weapons and the threat of their use.
