The Government of Venezuela condemned this Thursday the decision of the United States (USA) to keep Cuba “on its arbitrary list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.”
In a statement released by Foreign Minister Yván Gil, the Bolivarian Government stated that this is an “infamous measure that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of the Cuban people and the legacy of their revolution, recognized for its principles of solidarity, peace and international cooperation.”
Below is the full text of the document:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the decision of the Government of the United States of America to keep the Republic of Cuba on its arbitrary list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism, an infamous measure that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of the Cuban people and the legacy of their revolution, recognized for its principles of solidarity, peace and international cooperation.
We denounce the double standard of the U.S. government, which has historically been complacent and permissive with terrorist expressions around the world, when they have served its hegemonic interests, using these practices to destabilize legitimate and sovereign governments, causing chaos and suffering to peoples. For this reason, it lacks the moral authority to issue this type of accusation against a country like Cuba, which has demonstrated its commitment to peace, as in its support for dialogue processes in Colombia.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the people and the revolutionary Government of Cuba. We call on the countries of the world to reject these hostile actions and to defend the principles of sovereignty, unity and mutual respect between States.
