Venezuela says goodbye to master Manuel Espinoza at the National Art Gallery

Maestro Manuel Espinoza, a prominent intellectual, painter and cultural promoter, will be dismissed this Friday, August 28, at the National Art Gallery (GAN), the institution of which he founded and where his wake and homage will be held starting at 12:30 noon.

According to information from Radio Nacional de Venezuela, Espinoza played a fundamental role in the consolidation of the arts in Venezuela and was part of the cultural transformation promoted during the administration of Commander Hugo Chávez, when he served as one of the first vice-ministers of culture.

His legacy also includes the founding of the GAN and the Armando Reverón Art Institute, an academic institution that would later become the University of the Arts (UNEARTE).

In addition to his artistic career and cultural management, Espinoza maintained active political participation as a member of the Communist Party during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Between 1961 and 1962, he redesigned the Red Rooster logo, the official symbol of that political organization that remains in force.

The day at the GAN will bring together artists, cultural promoters, activists and the general public to pay homage to Espinoza 's career and contributions to the culture, arts and institutional memory of Venezuela.
