The sector vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Freddy Ñáñez, expressed his solidarity with the Valencian Community of Spain this Friday, in the face of the heavy rains that, so far, have left more than 200 dead in the European country.
During his Cable a Tierra program, which broadcasts VTV Radio, Ñáñez sent “all our energy, let's hope this phenomenon can be beaten”.
In the radio space, journalist Karen Méndez explained that what happened in Spain was not only a natural, catastrophic phenomenon, but there is also political and business responsibility.
“In the most affected area, the Spanish right wing rules, and they dismantled the Emergency Unit, when the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) had warned about this phenomenon, the emergency system was not activated, people were alerted when they had water around their necks. Big companies forced their workers to go that day, and in some cases, they took their phones away to keep up with the news,” he said.
He added that many people died slapped to death, swept away by this flood that affected Valencia and where soldiers were sent, because the inhabitants of the area “have no water, no food. Victims survive with whatever help they can provide. This leads us to reject those who call for the dismantling of the State, because it causes deaths, causes losses, and is totally condemnable.”
In this regard, Minister Ñáñez
said that “capitalism hits twice as badly, treating the planet badly (with the climate emergency), which has a direct impact on life and then does so against the State, which is a wall that protects people.” He also valued the mechanism of solidarity of the inhabitants of the affected areas, while noting that this fact should serve as a reflection to “demand that the State prioritize life”.
