The Venezuelan Aquaculture Society reported that fish production in the country exceeded 300,000 tons per year, with an export of approximately 95,000 tons.

The president of the institution, Eduardo Castillo, quoted by Venezolana de Televisión, (VTV) stated that “of those 95,000 tons, 60,000 tons of shrimp were exported last year”

He stressed that in the midst of the imposition of tariffs ordered by the President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump, Venezuela opens up an opportunity for the Caribbean country.

“Because we improve our competitiveness with our prices and because our tariffs are going to be better compared to our competitors,” Castillo said.

He added that shrimp consumption in the nation “is relatively low”, so they focused on producing “an export-quality product”. Just like, he added, they provide a high quality item to the Venezuelan people, which is the same one they export.
