Venezuela takes sanitary and epidemiological surveillance measures for monkey pox (+Press Release)

Faced with the resurgence of monkey pox in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and in a growing number of countries in Africa, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela shared a statement stressing that sanitary and epidemiological surveillance measures will be taken at ports and airports for travelers coming from affected countries.

In this regard, the statement detailed the series of measures that will be implemented, after the World Health Organization (WHO) indicated that monkey pox is an international public health emergency.

On the other hand, the statement urged Venezuelan citizens to keep informed about the evolution of the epidemic only through official sources.

He also noted the main symptoms of the condition, including: fever, rash and inflammation of the lymph nodes, a rash on the skin that evolves sequentially from macula to papule, vesicle, pustule and crust that eventually dries up and falls off. It also established that this disease has a fatality rate of three to six by the way.

In addition, he warned that monkey pox is transmitted from one person to another through close contact with injuries, body fluids, respiratory droplets and contaminated materials.
