Thanks to the San Rafael del Páramo Folk Group Foundation, Venezuela will be present at the 10th International Dance Festival “Party in America” (FIRTYC), which will be held in the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, from June 30 to July 6.
In this regard, the general director of the group, Isaac Milano Ramírez, stressed that with joy they will represent Venezuela, “carrying those traditions that identify us and that we have kept high in our town of San Rafael del Páramo, in the Rangel municipality of the state of Mérida.”
Milano detailed the repertoire that 18 of the group's artists will present in Colombian lands. At the same time, he indicated that “we carry the beautiful traditions that identify us. Among the repertoire, the twists of San Benito de San Rafael stand out, executed with their colorful costumes and traditional ribbons, as well as the evenings in Merida”, a demonstration that was part of the file that allowed the proclamation of Joropo as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
Apuntó that the stage proposal will also include the traditional Andean joropo and the rescue of a very significant local demonstration: the Locos de Mariana, a dance alluding to the Virgin of Candelaria.
Asimismo, highlighted the historical value of his costumes, which include pieces of heritage value, preserving the original clothing, with the traditional hats of the lady and the Andean heartthrob. “We have ruanas made and woven by Juan Félix Sánchez himself. Wherever we present ourselves, we make an exhibition of this legacy,” he said.
Finalmente, Milano said: “We want to strengthen the brotherhood and cooperation that must exist between Venezuela and Colombia. We carry a message of unity and joy, demonstrating the beautiful things that we can achieve by being united as sister countries.”
