The Venezuelan delegation arrived at the headquarters of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in The Hague, to confirm that this instance lacks jurisdiction in the dispute over Guiana Essequiba.

Through his Telegram channel, Gil assured that Venezuela is presenting itself “to defend in this area, and in all those that are necessary, the historical rights of our nation over the territory of Guiana Essequiba” and “to reaffirm the illegality of this resource, since it contravenes the Geneva Agreement, the only legal instrument and agreement in force between Venezuela and Guyana to reach a consensual solution to the territorial dispute”.

The Bolivarian Government reiterates its absolute and exclusive commitment to the Geneva Agreement and to the mandate of the Venezuelan people expressed in the 2023 referendum.

“Although the national representation hears the organization's call after the unilateral lawsuit filed by Guyana in 2018, the official position of Caracas focuses on denouncing the court's incompetence and claiming the Geneva Agreement of 1966 as the only valid legal instrument to settle the dispute,” the website of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela reported.

‎En In that sense, the “Venezuelan State maintains its historic position of not recognizing the power of the ICJ to decide on the territory,” Gil concluded.
