Venezuelan Clacso Center calls for the defense of sovereignty

El center of the Venezuelan Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), issued a statement, rejecting the new escalation of the United States Government.
La missive calls for the urgent defense of peace and for the self-determination of the Venezuelan people who decided to build a future that defends independence.”

La peace in Venezuela is peace in the region and our region is an essential piece of world balance
En these days, victims of imperial violence have a Palestinian face. The genocide and the dispossession of the land of an entire people, which we witness today with helplessness and pain, takes place because of the political indolence inherent to the prevailing world order and because of the silent gaze of multilateral organizations.
Este cruel process is part of a plan that relates to other neocolonial and neofascist aggressions, such as those imposed on liberation and sovereignty movements in the African continent, in Cuba or in Haiti and in any territory of economic and geopolitical interest of the current hegemons.
Venezuela has lived these past 26 years under constant siege through attempted coups, economic war, fourth-generation media wars, frustrated assassinations, theft of our assets abroad and the imposition of criminal unilateral coercive measures that have undermined our right to health, food, education and peace.
Desde our diverse critical positions and analyses, warn of a new escalation of the US government against Venezuela, against our sovereignty, our independence tradition and our popular dignity. As has been reported from multiple spaces, military action against Venezuela not only threatens peace in Venezuela, but would shake the regional balance with the consequent social, economic, military and political repercussions typical of an armed conflict.
Si the economic war, internal political tensions, attempts at intervention by mercenary forces, psychological intimidation and the symbolic disqualification of our kindness have not broken the democratic will of the Venezuelan people or their capacity to resist, nor will the disrespectful and grotesque reward offered by the US Government for information leading to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro Moros, on the unfounded accusation of leading an alleged drug cartel, combined with the recent authorization to use military force against drug cartels in Latin America.
La unstoppable offensive of the imperialist government of the United States and this new threat against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela undermines the will to maintain Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, expressed repeatedly in the mechanisms and instances of sovereign cooperation and solidarity that have been built in the region, such as CELAC. The stability and balance of a region crucial for maintaining global balance cannot be left out of our academic concerns and our militant action for just causes.
Desde most of the Venezuelan CLACSO Centers express our commitment to the defense of our sovereignty. Therefore, we call for the urgent defense of peace and for the self-determination of the Venezuelan people who decided to build a future that defends the independence for which we fought with ardor and heroism more than two hundred years ago.
La peace in Venezuela is peace in the region, and peace in the region is necessary for peoples to see, without fear, their place in a viable, democratic and equal world. May the faces of the victims of imperial military violence not also be Venezuelan.
