The Venezuelan rowing duo composed of César Amaris and José Guipe won the gold medal in the final of the men's 500 meter light pair 70 kilos or LM2X event, on a day in which Jackson Vicent and Kimberlin Meneses contributed bronze at the Ayacucho-Lima Bolivarian Games.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic athletes achieved their qualification to the final by positioning themselves as the first in the elimination round with a time of 01:30.49 to leave Peru (01:34.74), Paraguay (01:38.27) and the Dominican Republic (01:48.14).
They slowed down the time
In the final, the Criollos took the gold by dropping their first record with a time of 01:26.40, relegating Dominicans Ignacio Vásquez and Wilson Restituyo to second place (01:28.44), and Chileans Juan Peña and Tomás Muñoz to third place (01:29.28).
“We knew it wasn't going to be easy. The weather conditions were terrible, but we trained very hard for this, psychologically we were ready to look for gold,” Amaris said.
Successful debut
Guipe stressed that this is the first time they have competed in the 500-meter modality, which is more explosive and faster, unlike the two-kilometer competition, which consists of strength and endurance.
“We demonstrated the fruit of all this preparation, of all the support from the Ministry of Sports and now we have the skills left to continue giving more fruit to the country,” he said.
Jackson Vicent shared the bronze with the Uruguayan Bruno Cetraro, in the event won by the Chilean Ignacio Abraham, and the silver went to the Peruvian Vicenzo Giurfa.
The other bronze of the day was won by Kimberlin Meneses in the women's individual event dominated by the Peruvian Valeria Palacios with the Paraguayan Adriana Sanabria and the Uruguayan Romina Cetraro sharing the silver one.
