Vice President Rodríguez: 50% of roads affected by the rains have been rehabilitated in Barinas

The executive vice president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, reported this Thursday that they continue to attend to the emergency due to the rains in the state of Barinas, where they are already 50% complete in dealing with the landslides that took place on the road that directly connects this entity with Mérida, also affected by heavy rainfall.

Accompanied by the governor of Barinas, Adán Chávez, she indicated that in the Andean area there was a 300% increase in rainfall and said that, “in the llanera state it rained in one day what normally hurts to rain for a month.”

“We are experiencing the effects of the climate emergency, it's already a reality,” said Rodríguez, from Barinitas, La Cochinilla sector, in the region's Bolivar municipality, adding that eight of the state's 12 municipalities were affected by the rains.

He also reported that all regional, local and national organizations are working in an articulated manner to serve the 3,730 families that were harmed by the contingency.

The executive vice-president took the opportunity to reflect on the facts, calling for awareness of the climate emergency, to understand that if the capitalist way of life is not changed, the human species may disappear.

In another vein, Rodríguez mentioned that in Barinas, no fatalities were reported due to the overflow of the Santo Domingo River.

They work on affected works

The governor of Barinas, Adán Chávez, indicated that families have been cared for from the outset, under the civic-military-police union and explained that the most serious damages occurred in the towns of Altamira and Calderas, where the road that connects them collapsed and which, therefore, caused them to be incommunicado for several hours.

With the support of the People's Power, he said that it was possible to open a momentary alternative route, while the technical study is being carried out and the measure to be implemented to restore the passage permanently is being evaluated.

He also specified that two hanging bridges were affected and will be carrying out a medium-term rehabilitation project.

The regional president specified that food and medicine have also been provided to families, in addition to deploying all health personnel to ensure their optimal condition.
