The commander of the Valais Cantonal Police, Frederic Gisler, confirmed the magnitude of the tragedy that occurred at approximately 1:30 in the morning local time while more than a hundred people were celebrating the arrival of the new year.

The attorney general of the canton of Valais, Beatrice Pilloud, reported that the authorities' current priority is the work of legal medicine to achieve the identification of the deceased. Although the situation is already under control, the building suffered severe structural damage due to the violence of the detonations.

The president of the Swiss Confederation expressed his deep regret at the disaster that occurred in the ski resort of Crans Montana. Through an official message, the president said that “what was a moment of joy turned last night into a tragedy in Crans Montana, which was felt all over the country and beyond”.

The head of state also emphasized that the Federal Council took note of the event with dismay and sent a message of support stating that the agency “accompanies the victims, the injured and their families, and transmits its sincerest condolences” in the face of the pain that grieves the nation this first of January.
