The Vuelta al Táchira by bicycle, a category 2.2 event endorsed by the International Cycling Union (UCI), was officially extended to ten stages for its 2026 edition, a decision that marks a milestone for Latin American cycling

The announcement was made by the governor of the state Freddy Bernal, after the efforts made before the Pan-American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) to achieve this desire for Andean cycling.

The competition, which has been held in eight stages since 2018, will be held in this edition from January 9 to 18, 2026, and has already been updated in the International Calendar of the UCI, according to the press release of the Government of Táchira.

“This decision responds to the sustained growth of the event and the interest of international teams to participate in a more robust competition,” said José Gregorio Freites, president of the Tachirense Sports Institute and spokesperson for the organizing committee.

Freites reiterated that it has been a joint effort that involves, in addition to the organizing committee, the Minister of Popular Power for Sports, Franklin Cardillo, who is very attentive to the whole issue of the Vuelta al Táchira, and the international commissioner of the race's technical committee, José Manuel Zabala.

This adjustment not only represents an expansion in terms of career and sporting demand, but it is also an opportunity to strengthen the position of the career as a showcase for emerging talent in Latin America.

The Vuelta al Táchira is considered one of the most emblematic events in the continental UCI calendar, and its extension will allow for the incorporation of new mountain stages, time trials and possibly binational stages, consolidating its reputation as a race of high technical and strategic level.
