Young people in 17 countries start training at Antonio José de Sucre Leadership School

The Antonio José de Sucre International School of Youth Leadership began a workshop especially aimed at young people from 17 countries and whose opening class was led by the institution's rector, Héctor Rodríguez, who focused on the need to empower young people with a vocation for leadership.

“For us, leadership is closely related to the concept of power, but we must be careful not to confuse this tendency with that old vision of individual, selfish power, of the logic of aspiring to office. For us, communal power is the sum of wills,” he said from the school's headquarters in Fila de Mariches, Sucre municipality in Miranda state.

He added that Popular Power in revolution has been put to the test by directly allocating resources to communities through the National Popular Consultation, the Government Plan of the Seven Transformations (7T) and the Concrete Agenda for Action (ACA), mechanisms through which citizens themselves decide the destination of the resources allocated by the State for the development of projects for collective benefit.

“No minister can come and say: a court will be built here, such a thing will be installed here, for example. It is the community that has the power to make decisions,” he added.

49 young leaders from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic and Palestine participate in this workshop.
