The People's Power Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, reported that, “in a gesture of love and solidarity,” a contingent of 22 Venezuelan professionals arrived in Cuba who will join efforts to restore the electrical system and infrastructure damaged by Hurricane Melissa.

“The unity and friendship between Cuba and Venezuela, cultivated by Chávez and Fidel, will always remain firm,” he said in a post on his Telegram channel.

This first contingent of technical personnel departed from Simón Bolívar International Airport, through a flight operated by the state company Conviasa.

The specialists were selected from the areas of electrical energy, transport and public works, with the mission of recovering electrical lines and carrying out diagnostics for future aid.

The Cuban ambassador in Caracas, Jorge Mayo Fernández, expressed his deep gratitude for the “invaluable and valuable help” of Venezuela, which he described as the first international support received after the contingency resulting from the climate crisis.

On October 30, Foreign Minister Gil led the air transfer to Cuba of a first shipment containing 26 tons of supplies. Over the weekend, the ship of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) sailed from the port of La Guaira, with more than 100 containers and 5,000 additional tons of humanitarian aid.
