In the spaces of the Library of the Museum of Fine Arts (MBA), the II Meeting on Art Criticism in Venezuela was inaugurated: validation or interpretation? , which pays homage to the master Juan Calzadilla and seeks to revitalize art criticism in the country.

The event brought together specialist speakers who discussed the current critical role of art, who agreed on the role of analyzing, interpreting and evaluating works, making informed judgments about their value, meaning and cultural context.

They also analyzed whether art criticism is in crisis or could disappear, especially in the face of the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), a tool that many creators are already using, which is why the question was raised as to whether AI should be considered in the evaluation of art, although the participants concluded that a society without aesthetic creation and production is something impossible to imagine.

In this regard, Professor Zacarías García highlighted the importance of this work, which he considers crucial for society to develop a sense of logical analysis when appreciating works of art. At the same time, he highlighted the work of Maestro Calzadilla, who understood the need to train the community in this artistic process.

The event 's coordinator, Edgar Cruz, explained that the meeting was the result of a previous initiative in which a space was requested to discuss the importance of criticism.

“That is why the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture (MPPC), through the Institute of the Arts of Image and Space (IARTES), promotes this type of meeting that will serve as an instrument for critics and curators to better interpret works of art,” he said.

This meeting, which began this Wednesday, September 17, continues this Thursday to address issues related to dance, theater and architecture, among other cultural disciplines.
