Below is the full statement
The member States of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) follow with attention and concern the recent complaints made by the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, regarding a possible coup d'etat and assassination attempt in that sister nation.
Throughout this year, Latin America and the Caribbean have been the scene of countless attempts at destabilization, through continuous attacks on the institutionality of several countries and direct threats against democratically elected popular leaders and political leaders.
It would be an act of remarkable naivety to consider that these events constitute isolated or disconnected cases, so the ALBA-TCP alerts the international community to the execution of a planned and induced strategy, coordinated by factual powers, both external and internal, with the objective of disturbing peace and prosperity in the region.
Since the first day of his term in office, the oligarchy that ruled Colombia for decades has tried to corner President Petro to prevent him from carrying out his sovereign and progressive government project that seeks to achieve the peace and human development that the Colombian people so long for and deserve. In this context, the complaints made by the country's top president represent a latent and imminent risk to Colombian democracy and society.
The Bolivarian Alliance will continue to follow up on these serious allegations and trusts that the leadership of President Petro and the democratic vocation of the deep people of Colombia will be able to neutralize any threat to the peace and stability of this sister nation.
The ALBA-TCP demands that sovereignty be respected and that there be no interference in the internal affairs of Latin American and Caribbean peoples and that this new wave of coordinated actions to cause political, economic and social destabilization in several countries of Our America cease.
