Alexa Álvarez, Astrid Montero and Gilbery García win gold in Wrestling at the Junior Pan American Games

Venezuelan women Alexa Álvarez, Astrid Montero and Gilbery García shone in their respective categories in wrestling at the II Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay.

In addition to winning the gold medal, they secured their tickets to the Lima 2027 Games.

Álvarez won gold in the 53 kg category with a resounding 11-0 victory over Colombia's Yusmy Chaparro.

If he started his way to gold with a solid 10-0 against Kailane Araujo from Brazil, in the semifinals he beat Brianna González from the United States 6-0.

For his part, Montero (62 kg) started from the semifinals, where he beat Savannah Cosme from the United States with a solid score of 11-0, as his opponent in the quarterfinals, the Mexican Melanie Jiménez forfeit.

In the final, María Santana dominated Cuba with a dominant final score of 12-1.

Garcia (68 kg) in the final dominated Brooklyn Hays of the United States 4-2.

The Venezuelan started the day with a 7-2 victory against Thais Tertuliano from Brazil in the quarterfinals. He followed up with a 4-0 semifinal win against Cuba's Dailianis Canales to go for gold.
