Ambassador Claudia Salerno presented credentials to the International Atomic Energy Agency

The Venezuelan ambassador to the Republic of Austria, Claudia Salerno Caldera, presented to the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, the credentials that formalize his responsibility as Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to this multilateral body.
The information was provided by the Ministry of People's Power for Science and Technology, in a press release published on its website.
He noted that during a meeting held at the headquarters of the United Nations (UN) in Vienna, diplomats discussed the importance of the Technical Cooperation Program that the IAEA has implemented in Venezuela.
This program, promoted by the National Government through the Sectorial Vice Presidency of Science, Technology, Education and Health, focuses on projects in various areas, especially in the health sector, including cancer prevention and treatment, radiation safety, disposal of discarded radioactive sources, environment and food.
At the meeting, they also highlighted the importance of training Venezuelan technicians and specialists in the efficient use of nuclear technology to strengthen capacities in the sector.
The Director General of the IAEA, Mariano Grossi, stressed the need to mobilize available resources through regional development banks and other financial bodies to benefit countries such as Venezuela, demonstrating his personal commitment to cooperation in strategic areas.
He also mentioned that the important conferences of the current year, such as the General Conference and the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications, require the assistance of high-level authorities from Member Countries.
For her part, Ambassador Salerno Caldera reported that in September 2024, Venezuela will join the IAEA Board of Governors for the period 2024-2026. In that regard, he indicated that this meeting is a crucial space for discussing relevant issues related to the Agency.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was established in 1957 as a specialized governmental agency, part of the United Nations system, with responsibility for ensuring the peaceful and physically safe uses of nuclear science and technology, thus contributing to international peace and security.
