The National Assembly (AN), this Tuesday, November 12, approved the draft Agreement in Solidarity with the People and Government of the Republic of Cuba, after the strong earthquakes recorded on November 10, 2024.
During the regular session, the presentation of the Agreement was given by Deputy William Fariñas, who indicated that Venezuela “is always aware of this situation, but last Sunday an earthquake occurred, and we sympathize with our Cuban brother. In this house of laws, the Venezuelan parliament, we want to give a loud applause to our Cuban brothers.”
Fariñas stressed that “our Cuban brothers have faced a very strong climate change, but when we talk about solidarity, they are virtues of the Peoples.”
“We, as Venezuelans, have that brotherhood with Cuba, and our president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, ordered our Simón Bolívar Humanitarian Task Force to lend itself to helping Cuba, since it is capable of facing any climate event in the world,” he said.
Relations between Venezuela and Cuba have been close and strategic since the arrival of Commander Hugo Chávez to power in 1999. Chávez and Fidel Castro forged an alliance based on socialist ideals and mutual cooperation.
This relationship was consolidated with the signing of the Cuba-Venezuela Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement, on October 30, 2000, which covered areas such as health, education, sports, agriculture and energy.
Under the leadership of President Maduro, the alliance has remained strong and cooperation has continued in various sectors, its solidarity with Cuba on multiple occasions as a diplomat, economic and military.
The approval of this agreement in the AN reflects Venezuela's commitment to international solidarity and support for its allies in times of need.
