The president of the National Assembly (AN), Deputy Jorge Rodríguez, celebrated this Tuesday, November 12, the 25th Anniversary of the Declaration of Venezuela as a Bolivarian Republic.
In the regular session, he recalled that the proposal to declare Venezuela as a Bolivarian Republic was made by the constituent Eliézer Otaiza, so that the country would proudly bear a name with a Bolivarian character, according to the AN on its website.
He indicated that the proposal received support at the Plenary of the National Constituent Assembly on November 12, 1999, 25 years ago.
He also explained that, at that time, representatives of the right wing, and some traitors entrenched among the Bolivarian constituents, were wondering why to include the word Bolivarian in the name of the country, and they suggested continuing to call it the Republic of Venezuela.
In view of this, he pointed out that the Constitution is foundational; therefore, it recovers all the historical legacy and construction of a State from the Liberator Simon Bolivar.
Rodríguez specified that the same people who tried to deny this proposal 25 years ago are the same ones who deny the eight-star flag and also the flag of Guiana; “they permanently deny the example of our heroes.”
He reiterated that they are the same people who mocked, for decades, the struggle for independence and freedom in Venezuela, and they are the ones who support the barbarians of Spain who still say that there was no genocide on the continent.
