This Thursday, the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, rejected the oppositions' opinion matrix about an alleged “self-coup”, following the military takeover of Plaza Murillo on Wednesday and the forced entry into the old Government Palace.
“I am not a politician who is going to win popularity with the blood of the people. Quite the contrary, we have come to vindicate those Bolivian people who gave their blood to recover democracy,” said Arce.
These statements by Arce are due to the fact that the former commander of the Army, Juan José Zúñiga, who led the failed coup d'etat, after being arrested, indicated that this action was requested by the Bolivian president.
“It can't be an instruction or a planning of a self-coup. At that time he could tell me: you have instructed me this, he could tell me. Or he could comply with a counterorder, finally, but he doesn't obey my orders because he acted on his own, that should be clear,” Arce said.
According to the Xinhua website, arrests for the failed coup d'etat have risen to 17 and the authorities announced more than 15 pending arrest warrants.
