The Argentine Government of Javier Milei dismissed more than 100 workers from the Public Defender's Office and anticipated its intention to eliminate that body.

According to information from Venezolana de Televisión, the measure left the entity with a total of 40 employees and threw another 104 onto the streets, which annulled several of the initiatives that were being launched.

These new dismissals are another step in their advance against state bodies that, according to the unions in the sector, will continue.

At the end of December, 50,000 contracts will expire in different State bodies and the idea is to reduce the “caste” of workers.

In view of this, representatives of the State Workers Association and the Union of National, Provincial and Municipal Public Workers, the two largest unions in the sector, demanded the automatic renewal of all contracts at risk and the Government did not respond to the request first.

Therefore, the unions warned that in recent days, 10,000 invitations to retire have been sent. So far this year, more than 37,600 state governments have been left on the streets, most of them due to the non-renewal of their quarterly contracts.

For this reason, at the end of December, the fear is that the round of dismissals and dismissals will move towards the 76,000 dismissals that President Javier Milei had promised as one of his goals of “shrinking the State”.
