The recent ASEAN-China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) trilateral summit in Malaysia marks a milestone in the consolidation of a new multipolar world order. During the meeting that brought together 17 nations, an interregional South-South breakthrough took place that redefines the global geopolitical landscape by challenging Western hegemony.

In this regard, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim, recalled the history of interconnection between these regions, from the ancient Silk Road to the modern maritime networks of Southeast Asia.

Historical connectivity, which was driven by trade, culture and the exchange of ideas, is now revitalized through China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

This alliance promotes economic development and regional integration through BRI projects that range from infrastructure to trade, Sputnik said.

The final declaration of the summit underlines the commitment to strengthening historical and civilizational ties, as well as to promoting economic development in the Asia-Pacific and Western Asia. China proposes to include the Arab nations of the GCC in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), further consolidating this trade block.
