ASEAN countries make an offering to Bolivar on the occasion of his 58th anniversary

The ambassadors of Vietnam, Vu Trung My, and of Indonesia, Fikry Cassidy; the consul of Thailand, Oscar de Guruceaga; and the chargé d'affaires of Malaysia, Shalihin bin Annuar; all member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) accredited in Venezuela, held a wreath ceremony this Wednesday before the sarcophagus that holds the mortal remains of the Liberator Simon Bolivar, in the Pantheon National of Caracas, regarding the 58th anniversary of the founding of the regional block.
The protocol ceremony was accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Tatiana Pugh Moreno, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
During the activity, the glorious notes of the hymns “Glory to the Brave People” and “The ASEAN Way” were sung; in addition, the authorities signed the book of minutes ratifying the ties of union and cooperation.
The ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Fikry Cassidy, assured that ASEAN seeks peace, economic development and security in each region, while stressing that they continue to develop initiatives to continue promoting cooperation with Latin America.
In this regard, he said that “Asia and Venezuela will continue to strengthen cooperation” from the accredited secretariat, as well as informed that the South American nation “is one of the countries in Latin America with potential for collaboration in the economic, political and security sectors.”
He added that “cooperation between ASEAN and other bodies is also important, and there are many issues that organizations can discuss and strengthen by working together for a better world.”
ASEAN is an intergovernmental organization made up of 10 countries, founded on August 8, 1967 with the signing of the ASEAN Declaration (Bangkok Declaration) by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, with the objective of promoting regional cooperation in economic, political, cultural and security matters.
Currently, the member States of the Association are Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.
The ASEAN Secretariat is based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Currently, the presidency of the Association is held by Malaysia, which has focused its management on the “ASEAN Community Vision 2045", a strategic plan for the next 20 years that seeks to address challenges such as regional stability and sustainability.
