The Deputy Minister for Europe of the Ministry of People's Power for Foreign Affairs, Coromoto Godoy Calderón, accompanied the ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to Venezuela, Andrei Molchan, at the wreath-giving ceremony dedicated to the Liberator Simon Bolivar at the National Pantheon, in Caracas, on the occasion of the Independence Day of this country of Eastern Europe, which 80 years ago freed itself from the occupation of Nazi Germany's troops.
The diplomats ratified, once again, the ties of friendship and strategic cooperation between their countries, which officially established relations on February 4, 1997 and were strengthened two years later, with the beginning of the Bolivarian Revolution led by Hugo Chávez Frías.
Caracas officially recognized the independence of Belarus on January 11, 1992. Later, in December 2006, the Bolivarian Government inaugurated its embassy in this nation and in October 2007, this European country did the same in Venezuelan territory.
Every July 3rd, Belarus celebrates its National Day in a big way, also known as Independence Day, since it was on this date in 1944 that the city of Minsk was liberated by the Red Army from Nazi occupation during the Second World War (1939-1945) or Patriotic War , as it was called in the Soviet Union.
