Bolivarian fire began its route to the Lima and Ayacucho Games

The fire of the Bolivarian Games in Lima and Ayacucho will illuminate the path of Bolivarian countries

The volleyball players Carlos Bello and Sofía Carucci led the route that began at the birthplace of the Liberator Simon Bolivar and continued to Plaza Bolívar.

At the venue, they were welcomed by the athletes who will represent the country, together with the Minister of Popular Power for Sports, Franklin Cardillo; the president of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV), María Soto; the president of the Bolivarian Sports Organization (ODEBO), Baltazar Medina; the president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari; and the mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez.

Minister Cardillo thanked the ODEBO for holding the solemn ceremony, while highlighting the teamwork done with the COV so that the Creole representation can count on the best conditions for obtaining medals.

“Thank the ODEBO, its president, for giving us the honor of lighting the fire of the Bolivarian Games in Lima and Ayacucho, which will illuminate the path of all the Bolivarian countries that are going to participate in this edition that the Peruvian Olympic Committee is organizing,” said the leader of the ministerial portfolio to the information portal of the Minister for Sports.

“We are working as a single team together with the Venezuelan Olympic Committee and comrade María Soto to serve our delegation, as instructed by our president Nicolás Maduro, they have fulfilled a plan that has directed and supervised our work team so that Venezuela will participate under the best conditions,” added the president of the National Sports Institute.

The president of ODEBO, Baltazar Medina, highlighted the importance of maintaining the tradition of lighting the Bolivarian fire to maintain the memory of Latin American heroes, in addition to promoting brotherhood among the peoples freed by Simon Bolivar.

“For the Bolivarian Sports Organization, this tradition of lighting the Bolivarian fire is very important, as a preamble to the start of the Bolivarian Games. An event that, as we all very well know, was born 90 years ago to honor the memory of the Liberator Simon Bolivar and to keep the memory fresh, especially of the young people who were the ones who gave us freedom,” Medina said.

Meanwhile, the president of the COV pointed out that around 567 athletes will wear the national tricolor, with a large participation of female athletes, a fact that highlights the equality and overcrowding that national sports have had in recent years.

“Around 567 athletes will represent us and almost 50% are women, those women who not only in sports have taken the baton of leadership, capacity, desire, but also of moving our country forward in any area. Today, not only is the Bolivarian fire ignited, but also the passion for those athletes,” he emphasized.

For his part, the president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee, Renzo Manyari, congratulated the Venezuelan sports authorities for their work to strengthen the Venezuelan sports system, at the same time I wish the best of success to the Venezuelan athletes.

“As Peru, as an Olympic Committee, we feel amazed, gratified by the great reception they have given us and by the level of sports they are achieving as a country. This only confirms the historic level of greatness, especially of excellence, not only in the sports field, but also in management that they have always had,” Manyari argued.

Patriotic commitment

Finally, Admiral Carmen Meléndez emphasized the commitment of Venezuelan athletes to the father of the country, to hold the games in his honor, while showing her confidence that Venezuela will compete for the first places in the competition.

“It's a commitment to our father Libertador Simon Bolivar. Our athletes are going to Peru to win and we will be here in Venezuela fighting for our athletes, in this twinning of Bolivarian countries, plus other invited countries, as part of the union of peoples,” said the mayor.
