Bolivarian Government decreed three days of mourning for the sensitive physical departure of Pope Francis

Public festivities and celebrations are prohibited during the period of mourning

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has declared a three-day mourning, starting this Monday, April 21 at 6:00pm until Thursday, April 24 at the same time, due to the sensitive physical departure of Pope Francis.

The decree published in the Official Gazette highlights that “POPE FRANCIS was a man of God who did not hesitate to make the powerful uncomfortable with the truth of the Gospel, whose clear and courageous voice denounced the inequalities of the dominant system and gave impetus to a church committed to the causes of the poor, the protection of nature and dialogue between cultures and religions”.

It specifies that in its Article 2. The National Flag will remain flown at half mast in all public buildings, both civil and military, for the period referred to in Article 1 of this Decree.

Article 3. Public festivities and celebrations are prohibited during the period referred to in Article 1 of this Decree, as a sign of the mourning that grieves the Venezuelan people and the entire world for such an unfortunate loss.

Article 4. The Minister of People's Power for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace is responsible for the execution of this Decree.

Article 5. This Decree will take effect as soon as it is published in the Official Gazette of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
