The Bolivarian Government initiated the Short Cycle Planting Plan in the area of Puerto de la Madera, Cumaná, Sucre state, with the planting of 500 chilli pepper seedlings on a plot of 300 square meters.
The initiative, coordinated by the Deputy Ministry of Urban and Family Agriculture, attached to the Office of Communities and Social Movements, is part of the national strategy to promote local production and guarantee food supply in the region.
Jhoanne Barceló, representative of the Deputy Ministry in Sucre, said that the objective is to reactivate agroecological practices that guarantee the availability of basic crops, especially at the end of the year.
The plan includes the progressive incorporation of red pepper, eggplant, Chinese garlic and chives. To this end, one hectare is being adapted to expand cultivation capacity.
Barceló estimated a harvest of close to 1,000 kilograms of chili pepper and explained that the short cycle program allows for crop rotation and optimal use of soil conditions.
