Bolivarian Government promotes more than 60 projects focused on AI

The Sectorial Vice President of Science, Technology, Ecosocialism and Health, Gabriela Jiménez, presented Venezuela's advances in artificial intelligence (AI), highlighting the execution of 65 national projects focused specifically on this area.

Interviewed by Globovision, the Minister of Science and Technology also indicated that, in addition, the Bolivarian Government's national scientific agenda includes 950 projects, of which 24% are developed in the area of health and 20% in social sciences.

“Today we are debating ethical elements of artificial intelligence, ethical elements in synthetic biology, which have to do with transgenics and genetic modification of the human being; ethical elements for quantum computing, ethical elements for the use of social networks, and other elements that have to do with defense systems,” he added.

In the same way, according to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology, he stated that part of this AI agenda focuses on the training of the Venezuelan people, so there are eight technological nodes at the national level, approved by President Nicolás Maduro, spaces that function as development pilots in sovereign and secure software, and have a clear orientation towards AI.

In this context, he highlighted the importance of the National University of Sciences (UNC) Dr. Humberto Fernández-Morán, which already offers four new careers: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity Engineering, Data Science and Automation, and Robotics.

During the interview, Minister Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez referred to the recent presentation of the global governance system of AI, promoted by the People's Republic of China, as a multipolar proposal and explained that this vision proposes the creation of common ecosystems in open data, free software, technological infrastructure and shared data centers, with a focus focused on data security, ethics, equity and sovereignty.
