The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Yván Gil, through a statement published on his telegram channel, expressed the rejection by the country in the face of the illegal and illegitimate action taken by the Argentine federal judge, Ariel Lijo, against President Daniel Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo and senior officials of the Government of Nicaragua, in a clear lawfare operation designed to attack a legitimate and sovereign government.

In this regard, he published a statement on behalf of the Bolivarian Government:

“The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly rejects the illegal and illegitimate action taken by the Argentine federal judge, Ariel Lijo, against President Daniel Ortega, Vice President Rosario Murillo and senior officials of the Government of Nicaragua, in a clear lawfare operation designed to attack a legitimate and sovereign government.

This ridiculous action, based on falsehoods by agents aligned with Western hegemonism and anti-Sandinista opposition sectors, demonstrates the political use of the Argentine judicial system as an instrument of intervention.

Such aggression responds to a systematic strategy that seeks to undermine the sovereignty of independent States and to justify the imposition of unilateral coercive measures in the name of supposed principles of human rights.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the use of the principle of universal jurisdiction for political purposes, a maneuver that violates the fundamental principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of States enshrined in international law.

We reiterate our unwavering solidarity with the people and Government of Nicaragua, led by President Daniel Ortega and Vice President Rosario Murillo, in their fight for the defense of sovereignty, social justice and self-determination. We raise our voice, together with the free nations of the world, to reject any attempt at intervention disguised as legality.”

On Monday, the Argentine judiciary ordered the investigative declaration and the international arrest of the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, and his wife and vice-president, Rosario Murillo, for their alleged responsibility for human rights violations committed in the Central American country.
