The Sectorial Vice President for Policy, Citizen Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, dismissed the malicious allegations regarding the nationwide data verification days carried out by the Administrative Service for Identification, Migration and Aliens (SAIME), to people whose identity cards number between 20 and 30 million.

“The SAIME calls for an update and well, the scandal. Why is SAIME going to do that? Who's going to do it? (...) is responsible for identifying people,” he said while drawing attention to this campaign promoted by spokespersons for opposition extremism, which has been accused of links to paramilitarism and drug trafficking.

“Every thief dreams that they are stealing it. These people are used to deceiving and stealing from each other and they think that others act like this,” he said and warned that these sectors “are the ones who want to mess everything up”.

In that regard, he explained that the SAIME activated this operation since it was receiving a lot of reports, to the effect that these citizens, when carrying out “some procedure, appeared to be unregistered”.

“It seems that the ink that was used, for whatever reasons, was not the best. In addition, for example, when it was necessary to identify a deceased person, they didn't have full records and it was more complicated,” he explained.

He specified that on the first day of the day, more than 90,000 people showed up at all the SAIME in the country, “you go and confirm your fingerprints, nobody is changing their identity card number or name.”

“I don't understand the reason for the alarm,” he said.
