The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello Rondón, described Juan Guaidó as a “criminal and a mobster” on Monday.
Cabello's statements are due to the fact that Guaidó intended to pay more than half a million euros to be recognized in Spain.
In this regard, Cabello reported that these practices respond to a scheme of “blackmail, extortion and fraud”, pointing out that the opponent has used illegally obtained funds to finance his image abroad. “Guaidó has even robbed his own people. Everything they do is paid, from the prizes they receive to the photos with foreign leaders,” he said.
He also referred to the influence of the political lobby in the United States, assuring that access to certain events and meetings with political figures comes at a cost. “A photo with an American pseudo leader has a price, an event has a price. They disguise it as legality, but it's pure lobbying,” he said.
Cabello also pointed to former U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, who received funding from the National Rifle Association, an organization linked to arms sales. “Rubio has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of this association and is now Secretary of State. It's a disaster as Secretary of State, but there he is,” he said.
He reiterated that the international extreme right continues to protect Guaidó, despite multiple complaints against him. “They protect him, but the truth always comes out,” he concluded.
