The sectoral vice-president for Politics, Public Security and Peace, Diosdado Cabello Rondón, said on Tuesday that the Venezuelan State is waging a frontal war against drug trafficking mafias, evidenced by the recent results of Operation Lightning of Catatumbo, where more than 31 tons of drugs have been seized in different procedures.
“We act in silence, without boasts, but with forcefulness. The results are clear: Operation Lightning has hit criminal structures with links that unfortunately reached officials, judges, prosecutors and even mayors elected by popular will,” said Cabello during a press conference.
He also denounced the existence of an international drug trafficking network led by actors such as Álvaro Uribe Vélez linked to Colombian paramilitarism, who, as he indicated, “simulate confrontations between them, while operating as a single large organization.”
He also stressed that the Government's action has significantly affected the logistical and financial power of these mafias. “We have closed strategic routes such as Lake Maracaibo to them, we are giving them in our pocket,” he emphasized.
Cabello also revealed that operations are currently being carried out in four states of the country, as a result of the analysis of information extracted from telephone devices, which has made it possible to identify payment methods and amounts intended to bribe local gang operators. He even mentioned payments of up to 20 thousand dollars.
He added that in the last few hours, more than 3,000 kilograms of marijuana and an additional 300 kilograms of drugs were seized in the state of Apure.
“Yes, there is a fight against drug trafficking and we are going to continue to corner it. This is a fight for peace and the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people,” he concluded.
