The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, took part in the Meeting of Social Movements of the World organized by the Simon Bolivar Institute to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the declaration by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as a Zone of Peace.
“We don't have missiles, we don't have nuclear submarines, we don't have aircraft carriers, we don't have state-of-the-art aircraft, we don't have bombs that destroy; but we are right, because we have the arguments, we have the history and we have the principles of sovereignty and freedom configured in our DNA,” said Gil.
The Venezuelan foreign minister described the military aggression perpetrated on January 3 as “the worst stain this territory has ever known, the most regrettable dark spot we have experienced since the region was declared a Zone of Peace, we saw the attack that no capital of South America had experienced since our Independence”.
He also pointed out that “defending the Zone of Peace implies organization and creating a route to a destination and a concrete victory, that we turn this dark spot into a point of teaching, of learning and of impetus towards the consolidation of our Independence”.
In addition, the diplomat emphasized that the social movements of the world “are proud that fate has put us to live in this era, precisely to show what we are made of, of the blood of liberators and liberators”.
