Chileans are going to elections this Sunday to elect the President of the period 2026-2030

This Sunday, November 16, Chileans go to the polls to elect the President for the period 2026-2030, as well as to choose national deputies and senators in seven regions of the country.
The voting centers opened at 08:00 local time. More than 15 million citizens are eligible to choose Gabriel Boric's successor for the period 2026-2030.
On this day, eight candidates are competing for the Presidency, in which Jeannette Jara, a member of the Communist Party and candidate of the ruling left-wing coalition, leads the intention to vote in the polls.
In addition to Jara, the right-wing José Antonio Kast, leader of the Republican Party; Evelyn Matthei, leader of the Independent Democratic Union; and the far-right Johannes Kaiser , of the National Libertarian Party, are competing for the presidency of the country.
In addition, Franco Parisi, of the People's Party; Harold Mayne-Nicholls, journalist and independent sports leader; Marco Enríquez-Ominami, independent politician; and Eduardo Artés, of the Communist Party of Proletarian Action, are running for office.
If no presidential candidate obtains more than 50% of the valid votes cast this Sunday, a second round of elections will take place on December 14.
As for the parliamentary elections in which the total of 155 seats in the Chamber of Deputies will be renewed and senators will be elected in the regions of Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Atacama, Valparaíso, Maule, La Araucanía and Aysén.
In Chile, presidential voting by senators and deputies is mandatory. All people who are on the final roll in the national territory in charge of the Electoral Service (SERVEL) must vote.
