After high-level talks, this Monday the governments of China and the United States (USA) agreed to reduce the tariffs imposed on products traded between the two countries by more than 100%, in a trade war promoted by US President Donald Trump.

“Neither side wants a decoupling, we want trade. We want more balanced trade. I think that both parties are committed to achieving this,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent when announcing the agreement.

According to a statement issued by the White House, Washington will cut tariffs from 145% to 30% while Beijing will cut tariffs from 125% to 10%.

This will have a period of 90 days, while both parties continue to negotiate a definitive de-escalation, as discussed at the recent high-level meeting held in Switzerland this weekend.
