Faced with the imposition of provisional tariffs on the import of Chinese electric cars by the European Union (EU), the People's Republic of China expressed its protest to the continental bloc, according to the spokeswoman for the Asian country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning.

At a press conference, Ning said that “economic and trade issues must be resolved through dialogue and consultation,” and in the face of this action, China will take the necessary measures to protect “its legitimate rights and interests.”

Brussels announced this Thursday, July 4, the imposition of preliminary tariffs on electric vehicles from the Asian country, claiming that Beijing's “unfair” subsidies to this sector are capable of economically harming EU manufacturers.

The EU explained that they are deposited in the form of bank guarantees and that they will be collected under certain circumstances only after they are finally adopted, says Sputnik Mundo.

In particular, the block imposed tariffs of 37.6% on electric cars from the company SAIC, 19.9% on Geely and 17.4% on BYD. These rates will be added to the regular 10% customs tariffs that have been applied for years to Chinese imports.
