China announced that it took countermeasures against seven military companies and senior US officials, as reported by the Asian nation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This decision was made after the United States announced arms sales to Taiwan.
“China will continue to take all necessary measures to firmly defend its sovereignty, security and development interests,” ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a press conference.
China stressed that these actions by the United States violate the principles of a single China and that they have repercussions on diplomatic relations between Beijing and Washington.
“Taiwan independence” is a dead end, and the United States' insistence on using military force to support “Taiwan independence” will only be counterproductive, Mao said, quoted by the Sputnik News Agency.
