The Secretary General of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), of Argentina, Héctor Daer, assured that the third general strike carried out this Thursday, April 10, by the labor sector under the government of Javier Milei was “a resounding success”, international media reports.
“The labor movement is carrying out a clear and concrete agenda for changing income policies,” he stressed.
He stated that with the exception of the UTA (Unión Tranviarios Automotor), all unions have joined and there are no trains, subways, or taxis in the City of Buenos Aires.
A large number of flights were also suspended, leaving 60,000 passengers without traveling.
During the afternoon of this Thursday, at a press conference, Daer explained the reasons for the strike. “There is a profound adjustment that leads to falling revenues,” he said.
“The labor movement is carrying out a clear and concrete agenda for a change in income policy,” he said.
He added that “the seriousness of the adjustment affecting public works and the provinces and the most important in the passive sector, retirees and retirees”.
Daer also referred to the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is about to be signed. “We couldn't learn anything about the agreement with the Fund and reserves are still being lost in the middle,” he said.
“It's a bad sign for an economic plan that more money is going to be asked for. Every time you go to the Fund, you end up adjusting to the most vulnerable sectors. For us, the Fund is never the way out,” he stressed.
He also sent a strong message to the Executive: “Argentina is very expensive in dollars, but for workers the way out is not devaluation.”
