The deputy to the National Assembly (AN), Nicolás Maduro Guerra, stated that the canonization of Doctor José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendiles comes at a time of patriotic definition and the example of our saints who preached love of neighbor with their lives and not hate or violence, “is the legacy that we must teach to present and future generations.”

In an interview with the Venezolana Special Television Program (VTV), regarding the ceremony this Sunday, October 19, at The Vatican, he stated that “I believe that we have a duty to continue to disseminate and train younger generations of who José Gregorio Hernández was, and who was Mother Carmen Rendiles”.

“That's making a homeland and not calling for invasions or calling for violence, not carrying hate in your heart,” he said.

He stressed that this historic moment comes in a situation in the country of definitions. “Not political definitions, not even religious ones. It comes at a time of patriotic definitions, a time of definitions where we are accompanying the country, or against it, with the interests of those who want to attack our country,” he warned, referring to minority sectors with great international media power, who are calling for bombings and deadly aggressions from outside.

He said that the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, has always been committed to complying with the People and succeeding in revitalizing and realizing the cause of canonization of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández, who was practically paralyzed despite being studied by the Church since 1948.

He also emphasized that the life of Mother Carmen Rendiles is an example of kindness and work towards others.

“They were two people like us, men and women of flesh and blood who had a life of sacrifice, and who as human beings will have made mistakes, because human beings are not perfect, but whose entire career was one of serving their country, serving people and God from reality,” he exemplified.

He considered that not only does man live by mass, but all believers in Jesus Christ must prove their faith, practice it through attention and respect for the humblest, seeking opportunities for the country to move forward. “This is what we are doing, giving tools to the people and guaranteeing peace in the country,” he said.

Maduro Guerra recalled that throughout Venezuela vigils are held in squares, public spaces and places of veneration to witness the historic transmission from the Vatican of the official sanctification ceremony of our first two Venezuelan saints who are examples for men and women of good will.
