Delcy Rodríguez: Economic and trade cooperation agreements solidify bilateral relations with Suriname

In a momentous day of work aimed at boosting regional integration, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, celebrated the signing of a wide range of strategic agreements with the President of the Republic of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, alliances that cover key sectors such as energy, agri-food, air and maritime connectivity, education, health and fishing.

“The economic and commercial cooperation agreements that we have reached allow us to solidify our bilateral relations, they are very important agreements in the area of hydrocarbons, where Venezuela provides its experience in oil exploration, production, gas, and in the general field of hydrocarbons to provide training to the Surinamese industry,” Rodríguez said

He also asserted that for Venezuela it is a source of satisfaction to be able to support in this direction with the Venezuelan Hydrocarbons University, “which has extraordinary technological and artificial intelligence platforms.”

The national president stressed that thanks to one of the agreements reached, 200 fishermen from Nueva Esparta and Sucre state who will now have their license to fish in this Atlantic corridor. “This will allow Suriname to have Mero and Pago for export to the United States and other countries,” he said.

To overcome the historic disconnect in the region, the head of state announced the granting of the fifth freedom of air to airlines, a measure designed to expand the space for participation and cooperation in air transport. “This agreement will allow airlines to feel more space for participation and cooperation, thus promoting binational tourism.”

“It is necessary for our tour operators to become familiar, to know each other and to be able to jointly promote multi-destination tourism, the great tourist advantages that Venezuela has and our beautiful landscapes. Both air and maritime transport must also be promoted, he said.

During his speech, Rodríguez emphasized the need to overcome the historical disconnection between the countries of the south, recalling the integrationist legacy of Simón Bolívar: “This visit allows us to confirm that the path is cooperation, friendship and relationship within the framework of international law, which must replace any form of conflict. All these interconnectivity agreements must pay off so that we are closer every day, not only in our hearts, but also in physical closeness.”
