Presidents Rodríguez and Simons sign historic strategic agreements between Suriname and Venezuela

The presidents of the Republic of Suriname, Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, and of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, led the signing of a series of strategic cooperation pacts in Paramaribo, aimed at strengthening Caribbean integration and energizing an alliance based on the complementarity, solidarity and sovereign development of both peoples.

The negotiations conducted by both dignitaries covered high-priority sectors for the binational economy, including energy, maritime and air transport, agriculture, fishing, commerce, tourism, culture and education. On the operational level, President Geerlings-Simons and President Rodríguez agreed to immediately activate a High-Level Joint Commission and accelerate technical evaluations so that Venezuelan agricultural production supplies the Surinamese poultry industry.

In addition, the instruments signed by the leaders include technical training programs in the area of oil and gas, together with sustainable fisheries development schemes. This articulation led by both heads of state reaffirms their determination to move forward in the consolidation of independent commercial circuits in the region, facing global geopolitical challenges through direct South-South cooperation.

The signing of these agreements by Presidents Jennifer Geerlings-Simons and Delcy Rodríguez comes as part of the commemoration of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Caracas and Paramaribo, established in November 1975. In this way, both nations revalidate a half-century bond based on mutual respect, consolidating the Caribbean Basin as an area of peace, stability and shared prosperity.
