The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, denounced this Monday that the Cooperative Republic of Guyana intends to reissue the Paris Arbitration Award before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and confirmed that the only mechanism for resolving the territorial dispute over the Essequibo is the Geneva Agreement.
In statements to the media, Rodríguez announced to the country the presentation of new evidence before the court, based in The Hague, about his rights in Esequiba Guiana, making it clear that he “does not recognize or will abide by this fraudulent procedure and any decision that emanates from it.”
“Venezuela has completed a phase of written phase that demonstrates the historical truth about the territory we inherited from our Liberating Father; and how a conflict was forged through agreements between the powers of the time and gunboat diplomacy, to strip Venezuela of the lands that belong to it,” he said.
He reiterated that the Paris Arbitration Award was buried by the Geneva Agreement signed in 1966, which obliges Guyana to “sit down and negotiate in good faith, peacefully and democratically to discuss with Venezuela.”
